91ºÚÁÏ’s Guildford College is delighted to be announced as beneficiary of a share of a £6m grant awarded by The Government’s Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) project.

The funding will be used to create a series of modern media production classrooms and learning spaces within the college campus on Stoke Road in Guildford.

The project is being carried out with the full support of Surrey and Hampshire Chambers of Commerce, alongside Surrey and Hampshire County Councils and other business networks, to help ensure local residents and businesses can access high-quality, technical education and training that meets local future skills.

College responds to local skills needs

Responding to local skills needs following recent growth in the gaming & immersive technologies as well as film & television sectors in this region, the project at Guildford College will focus on creating a state-of-the-art media production environment within the college’s existing Jubilee Building.

A set of contemporary, collaborative and agile classrooms will enable the teaching and learning of creative skills and emerging technologies. The space will improve and enhance the overall learning environment of this subject area and subsequent engagement of the students.

Technology will be an integral part of the space and will include not only modern computer equipment but also a dedicated 3D printer room and it aims to be open as a teaching space for the 24/25 academic year.

Neil Shoulder, Group Director of Createch Faculty and Guildford College, said: “I am excited that this transformative initiative will empower future generations of learners with the technical skills and knowledge needed for careers in this fast-moving and ever evolving industry as well as providing organisations with a strong pipeline of skilled candidates for employment in this growing sector.â€
